Shield Maiden was the first digital game I designed and programmed. I did all of the work myself from story to design to programming. I benefitted from the help of a wonderful professor, Jay Taylor-Laird who helped me tackle a lot of the C# which I was new to at the time, and I utilized the Unity 2D platformer asset package as well as a 2D character creator package that came with character assets and animations. This was a very ambitious project for someone new to both Unity and C# and while there are many things I'd change now that I am a more advanced programmer, I am proud of this being my first attempt at digital game design.

The game is a 2D platformer/hack and slash where players play as a Viking Shield Maiden on a quest to recover a sacred artifact. I had a much larger game designed that included 5 levels, multiple enemies, bosses, character upgrades, and more, but I only designed one level (as I said, this was an ambitious project). Still, not bad for a first effort!
